Our mission is to provide access to inclusive content that increases literacy, promotes fun learning for children and families, and supports other brown owned businesses.
We imagine a future where all children have access to books with characters that look like them. We believe that children having representative books in their home will improve the association that they develop with reading. Our aim is to work with families and communities to see an increase in youth literacy scores by 4th grade, helping to build household libraries with diverse books, increase the number of weekly read aloud hours and support other minority owned businesses and creatives.
Our subscriptions are shipped every month with each box having a different theme and including books and creatively fun activities for your little reader.
We have subscription lines that serve different age groups. Below is a description of each subscription option.
The Baby Bundle- Comes with two board books each month. Price starts at $19.99.
The $20 Bundle (Ages 4-6)- Comes with two books and one activity that relates to the monthly theme for the box. All of the books are picture books and they are a mix of books that you can read to your little reader or they can read to you. Price starts at $19.99.
The Brown Book Box (Ages 4-6)- Comes with three books and 2-3 activities that relate to the monthly theme of the box. Occasionally there will also be gifts for your little reader like: a customized wall decal or a t-shirt. The books are picture books as well and the levels will also range in level of difficulty. Price starts at $39.99.
The $20 Bundle (Ages 7-9)- Comes with two books and one activity that relates to the monthly theme for the box. This bundle will include one chapter book and a more difficult picture book to challenge your budding reader. Price starts at $19.99.
The Brown Book Box (Ages 7-9)- Comes with three books and 2-3 activities that relate to the monthly theme of the box. Occasionally there will also be gifts for your little reader like: a customized wall decal or a t-shirt. The books will begin to challenge your reader so expect at least one chapter book each month. Price starts at $39.99.

YES! Head over to the PICK YOUR PLAN page, toggle the gift option during check-out and decide how long you would like the gift subscription to last. If you gift your subscription before the 10th of the month your little reader will receive the current month's subscription. Otherwise their gifted subscription will not ship until the 15th of the following month.
If it’s after the 10th and you really want your little reader to receive the current month's box or bundle just head over to the one time gifting page and pick out your gift!
Yes, you can cancel any time and you can come back any time!
The Brown Book Box is all about representation. We want your little reader to see themselves in stories and books. That means that some boxes will vary. You will definitely see lots of little brown children, children with disabilities, non-traditional families, and a host of other diversities.

Our team is dedicated to finding the absolute best books for you and your little reader. If by chance you receive a book that you already own, a great way to pay it forward would be to gift the book with a friend of your little readers or your local youth serving non-profit. If you find that you’ve received multiple books that you already own, we want to work together to fix the issue with you and would appreciate your feedback by email at info@brownbookbox.org

You sure can! Our dedicated team spends hours researching hundreds of books that represent your family and your child. Once our team chooses the books, we create fun learning activities that align with the book or the theme of the book. So while, yes, these books are sold in store, we are selling you more than just a book. The Brown Book Box is an intentionally developed fun learning experience for you and your little reader. We do all the research so that you can enjoy all the fun times.
